Alrijne Hospitals

Serving 5.000+ daily users with new intranet

Summary

In partnership with Xuntos, we developed a completely new intranet for Alrijne Hospitals, serving over 5.000 daily users. The goal was to transform the outdated intranet into a modern, user-friendly and future-proof solution. Through UX research and AI integration we created a platform that significantly speeds up hospital staff workflows and brings internal communication to a new level.

Challenge

The existing intranet at Alrijne Hospitals had become both technically and visually outdated after years of use. Continuous additions without a clear structure had resulted in unclear information, making it difficult for staff to quickly find what they need. Our research showed that some functionalities were barely used, while others were essential but poorly accessible. Besides that, the look and feel no longer aligned with the hospital’s updated brand identity. The user base was highly diverse, ranging from younger employees with strong digital skills to older colleagues with less technological experience. This required a design that was accessible to everyone without compromising on functionality. Additionally, the client wanted to integrate AI, which had to be both intuitive and valuable at the same time. The platform also needed to be multi-role, making sure each user would only see content and features relevant to them. We began with an in-depth analysis of the existing situation and designed a completely new information architecture. All content was logically grouped and restructured, after which we developed the first concepts. These were tested with target users to understand their behavior and preferences. Based on this feedback, we refined navigation and functionalities.

Outcomes

AI were given a prominent role in the platform, enabling users to quickly access the right information and data. This feature was tested in usability sessions to ensure it added real value. Together with our development partner, we built a component library ensuring scalability and enabling rapid future development. The final product is a modern, consistent, and efficient internal platform that allows Alrijne Hospital staff to quickly and easily access essential information such as salary details, schedules and employment conditions. With AI integration, an optimized information structure, and a flexible technical setup, the platform is prepared for current needs and future innovations. It’s a solution that supports thousands of employees every day, boosts productivity, and strengthens internal communication.

"I really like the new design. It’s much clearer and I can find the main things straight away without clicking through different pages. Before, I sometimes had to scroll a lot to find what I was looking for. But now it’s right there in front of me. It just makes things feel simpler and finding information easier."
