The term 'Big 5 marketing agencies' refers to the world's largest agency holding groups. Each one owns dozens of specialized branding agencies, advertising networks, and communications firms across the globe.

1. WPP (United Kingdom): WPP is the largest advertising and communications group in the world. It owns Ogilvy, Grey, Wunderman Thompson, VMLY&R, and Landor & Fitch, which has a long reputation as a standalone branding agency in its own right.

2. Omnicom Group (United States): Omnicom has BBDO, DDB Worldwide, TBWA\Worldwide, and Interbrand, a global branding agency probably best known for its annual Best Global Brands report, which gets cited everywhere whether you trust it or not.
