When should a SaaS company rebuild its landing page versus just optimizing it?

Rebuild when the strategic foundation has shifted. Optimize when the foundation is solid and execution has gaps. Most teams get this backwards. They run optimization tests on a page that is structurally broken, then wonder why nothing moves more than 0.3%. The decision rule is simpler than most guides admit: if your positioning has changed in the last 18 months, you need a rebuild, not a test plan.

Building a landing page? You can ship one fast in Framer (View more here).

If the frame is wrong, you are measuring noise. A page built for SMB self-serve buyers will not convert enterprise procurement teams no matter how many CTA variations you run. Optimization assumes the page's strategic frame is correct, then tests variables inside that frame. When the frame is wrong, every test returns a false signal.

Three signals that tell you to rebuild

First, conversion rate relative to traffic source quality. If you are running paid campaigns with tight targeting, retargeting warm audiences or LinkedIn campaigns to a named account list, and conversion is still below 2%, the page has a structural problem. Below 2% on high-intent traffic is a messaging failure, not a button-color failure. At 2.5% or above on cold traffic with a goal of 3.5%, that is an optimization problem.

Second, positioning drift. New ICP, new pricing tier, new category, or a product that now does materially different things than it did at launch.

Third, brand fragmentation. Growth-stage tech companies often have a landing page built 18 months ago by one vendor, a sales deck built six months later by a freelancer, and a product UI that has evolved on its own. Buyers see three different companies instead of one. Trust leaks at every handoff. When the landing page looks and sounds disconnected from every other surface a buyer touches, optimization is just patching a structural crack.

For a post-product-market-fit SaaS moving past founder-led GTM, the rebuild versus optimize question usually resolves to a rebuild within the first 20 minutes of a diagnostic call. The company has scaled beyond the brand that launched it. The original page was written for an audience the founding team understood intuitively. The new audience is larger, more segmented, and reached through channels that require precise positioning, not founder instinct.

Across our Awwwards-winning work, the pattern holds: companies that optimize on a broken foundation spend 6 to 12 months and €15,000 to €40,000 on incremental tests before accepting the page needs a rebuild. Companies that rebuild first, with strategy, positioning, and narrative done before a pixel moves, typically see conversion improvements within 60 days and have a foundation that holds for 2 to 3 years.

On cost: a strategic landing page rebuild with proper positioning input, copy, and Webflow build runs €18,000 to €45,000 for a growth-stage SaaS. Ongoing optimization on top of a solid foundation runs €3,000 to €8,000 per month depending on traffic volume and test velocity. If you are spending more than €6,000 on optimization tests without a clear conversion trend, the foundation is the problem.

For context on what a full site rebuild involves structurally, the website redesign checklist maps the full decision set. If the agency question is also open, the Webflow design agency pillar covers how to evaluate who should build it.
