What tools do UI/UX designers use to build their portfolio websites?

Picking a platform to build your portfolio matters more than most designers admit. The right choice depends on your technical comfort level, budget, and how often you realistically plan to update things.

Figma is where the actual design work happens: mockups, prototypes, case study visuals. A lot of designers embed Figma prototypes directly into their portfolio sites so visitors can click through real interactions instead of just looking at screenshots.

Webflow is the go-to if you want full creative control without touching code. It handles complex animations, tight grid layouts, and proper typography. The tradeoff is a steeper learning curve than most template builders.

Squarespace and Wix are the faster, less fussy alternatives. The templates are clean enough, and you can go from nothing to online in an afternoon. They're not as flexible as Webflow, but for a lot of designers that's a perfectly reasonable tradeoff.

Notion has become a surprisingly common choice, mostly among junior designers and UX researchers. Notion portfolios are minimal and quick to spin up. They won't win any visual design awards, but they're easy to keep current, which matters more than people think.

Behance and Dribbble aren't really portfolio builders, but they function like one. Behance works better for longer case studies. Dribbble rewards strong visual shots. Most working designers keep a personal site and show up on at least one of these, because search and community discovery are real benefits.

One thing worth saying plainly: your portfolio site is itself a piece of UX work. If it loads slowly, confuses visitors, or looks sloppy on mobile, that sends a message before anyone reads a single word. Whatever platform you pick, the site should actually work well.
