What should you look for when evaluating a product design sprint agency?

Evaluate a product design sprint agency on three things: who runs the room, what the prototype looks like on day four, and what happens on day six. Most agencies nail the sales deck and fumble the execution. Facilitation credentials and design credentials are not the same thing, and the best sprint teams deliver both.
First: facilitation versus design skill. A certified Design Sprint facilitator can run a clean process. A senior product designer can build a prototype that users can actually navigate. You want both, ideally in the same person. Ask for a sample from a previous sprint, specifically the day-four Figma prototype, not the final presentation deck. If they can't show you an interactive file with realistic UI, the output will disappoint you.
Second: user testing protocol. The original Google Ventures framework calls for five user interviews on day five. Some agencies cut to three to save time, or swap live sessions for a five-question Maze survey. That's not testing, it's validation theatre. Ask how many users they recruit, whether sessions are live or async, and who synthesizes the findings. Good agencies deliver a synthesis document by end of day five.
Third, and the gap most evaluation guides skip entirely: the post-sprint plan. What do you do with the prototype on Monday? If the agency doesn't have a clear answer for how sprint outputs connect to production design work, you'll lose two to four weeks rebuilding context with a new team. Red flags and green flags
Red flag: the agency pitches sprint methodology more than they ask about your problem.
Red flag: portfolio shows only final deliverables with no process artifacts.
Red flag: pricing doesn't include user recruitment as a line item. This almost always means testing is under-resourced.
Green flag: they ask about your decision deadline before your budget.
Green flag: they push back on a vague brief in the first call.
Green flag: specific examples of post-sprint product outcomes, not just "the client loved it."

One concrete check: ask the agency what their worst sprint looked like. If they say they've never had a bad one, walk away. How they describe that failure tells you more about their quality than any case study, because it tells you whether they actually learned something.
