Design covers a lot of ground, and the different specializations can blur together if you're not familiar with them. If you're looking for product design services near you, knowing what each field actually does will save you from hiring the wrong people for the job.

Product design means creating physical or digital goods that solve a specific user problem. It pulls from industrial design, engineering, ergonomics, and user experience thinking. This is the core of what most local product design studios actually do.

Architectural design covers the planning and design of buildings. Architects balance function, safety, aesthetics, environmental impact, and local zoning rules. It's a licensed profession, which sets it apart from most other design fields.

Motion design, sometimes called motion graphics, animates visual elements for film, apps, TV, and digital platforms. It sits at the intersection of graphic design and animation.
