Is Figma design better than Photoshop?

Whether Figma is better than Photoshop depends entirely on what you're trying to do. The short answer: Figma wins for UI/UX and collaborative digital design, and Photoshop is still the better tool for photo editing and pixel-level work.

Figma is a browser-based, vector-first tool built specifically for designing interfaces, websites, and app prototypes. Its real-time collaboration is why product teams at SaaS companies and startups have largely standardized on it. The component system, auto-layout, and prototyping features are genuinely hard to beat for UI work.

Photoshop, part of Adobe Creative Cloud, is a raster image editor. It's what photographers, print designers, and marketers reach for when they need serious photo manipulation, digital painting, or compositing. The brush engine, layer effects, and masking tools go far deeper than anything Figma offers in those areas.

If you're evaluating design subscription services like Designjoy, Penji, or ManyPixels, both tools come up regularly. Most subscription designers deliver web assets and social graphics in Figma or Canva-compatible formats. Photo-heavy projects tend to involve Photoshop or Illustrator. It's worth asking your provider directly which formats they deliver in, because that affects how easily you can edit files after handoff.

On the learning curve: Figma is noticeably easier to pick up, especially for developers or non-designers who just need to review and comment. Its free plan helps too. Photoshop has a steeper learning curve and requires a paid Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.
