How much does the best brand identity design cost?

The cost of brand identity design varies enormously depending on project scope, designer experience, business size, and what deliverables you actually need. Knowing the rough price ranges helps you figure out where to spend and what you're getting for it.

At the entry level, freelance designers with limited experience typically offer basic packages, usually a logo and a couple of variations, for $500 to $2,500. These can work for very early-stage businesses, but they rarely include any strategic thinking, research, or anything beyond the files themselves.

Mid-level freelancers and small boutique studios generally charge $3,000 to $15,000 for a full brand identity project. At this range, you should expect a brand discovery phase, multiple logo concepts, a complete visual identity system with color palette and typography, proper brand guidelines, and some collateral templates. This is where most small and growing businesses get real value.

Established branding agencies charge $15,000 to $75,000 or more. These projects go deeper, covering brand strategy, competitive analysis, audience research, and thorough creative exploration alongside comprehensive brand guidelines. If your business is scaling fast or operates in a competitive market, the strategic work at this level can genuinely change how you're perceived.

At the enterprise level, global agencies working with large corporations routinely charge $100,000 to several million dollars. That price covers international market research, linguistic and cultural testing, system-wide implementation plans, and sometimes years of rollout support. It's a different category of work entirely.

Whatever level you're at, it's worth thinking about brand identity as an investment rather than a line item to cut. A strong brand increases perceived value, supports better pricing, and attracts better clients. The cost of getting it wrong, whether that means a rebrand two years later or customers who just don't trust you, tends to be higher than doing it properly the first time.
