How much does it cost to pay someone to design your website?

Paying someone to design your website costs between €1,500 and €150,000 depending on who you hire, what scope you hand them, and whether "design" means making something look good or making something perform. That range reflects genuinely different things being sold under the same word, not just different margins on the same work.

What you're actually buying at each level

Freelance designer, visual only (€1,500–€8,000): Mockups in Figma. The designer executes what you brief. If your positioning is wrong, the output reflects that. No strategy, no build, no QA. You'll still need a developer (€2,000–€10,000) and a copywriter if messaging isn't already locked.

Senior freelancer or small studio, design and build (€8,000–€25,000): Discovery, wireframes, Figma design, Webflow or WordPress build. Works well if your positioning is documented. Falls apart when a founder can't articulate who the site is for and expects the designer to reverse-engineer it from a briefing call.

Boutique agency, strategy through build (€25,000–€60,000): Positioning work, content architecture, design system, custom build, redirect mapping, post-launch support. This is where website redesign cost starts to look like a real investment. The agency owns the outcome, not just the deliverable.

Senior agency, full brand and site system (€60,000–€150,000+): Senior team across strategy, design, and build. AI inside the workflow for component generation and iteration speed, not added after decisions are made. The output is one consistent brand across every surface a buyer sees: homepage, product pages, sales deck, demo flow, lead capture. Companies at €3M–€20M ARR preparing to scale acquisition are where this level of investment has a defensible ROI.

The variable most founders miss is copywriting. Website design without copy is a shell. A senior copywriter for a full site runs €5,000–€15,000. Some agencies include it; most don't. Check before you sign anything.

A practical decision tree: under €2M ARR with limited runway, go senior freelancer or small studio at €10,000–€20,000. At €2M–€8M ARR scaling acquisition, use a boutique or senior agency at €30,000–€70,000. At €8M+ ARR entering new markets or categories, you need a full agency engagement at €70,000+, built as a brand and site system together.

For a vertical SaaS company we worked with last year, the engagement started at €45,000 scoped as a website redesign and expanded to €68,000 once the positioning audit revealed the site was targeting the wrong buyer entirely. The extra €23,000 was not scope creep. It was the actual problem being solved. The alternative was a €45,000 site that converted at the same rate as the old one.
