The cost of working with an outsource design work agency varies widely based on location, size, specialization, and scope. Knowing the pricing models upfront helps you budget honestly and pick a structure that actually fits your situation.
Project-based pricing is probably the most familiar. A logo alone runs anywhere from $500 to $5,000. Full brand identity packages typically land between $3,000 and $25,000. Website design starts around $5,000 for something basic and climbs past $50,000 for custom, complex builds.
Retainer-based pricing works better if you need design support on an ongoing basis. Most agencies charge between $1,500 and $10,000 per month, depending on how many hours or deliverables are baked into the agreement.
Subscription-based design services are newer and worth knowing about. You pay a flat monthly fee, usually $500 to $5,000, and submit design requests up to whatever the plan allows. If your needs are steady but unpredictable in scope, this model is often the cleanest fit.
Hourly rates run from $50 to $200 or more, and geography plays a bigger role here than most people expect. Agencies in the US, UK, or Australia tend to sit at the higher end. Agencies in Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, or Latin America can deliver comparable quality for $25 to $75 per hour. The gap is real, and it's worth factoring in seriously.
Beyond the base rate, a few things will quietly push costs up: how complex the work is, how many revision rounds are included, how fast you need turnaround, and whether you get a dedicated account manager or just a ticketing system.
When you're comparing agencies, look at total value rather than just the number on the invoice. Quality, consistency, and time saved are harder to put on a spreadsheet, but they matter. The cheapest option has a way of becoming the most expensive one once you factor in revisions, delays, and starting over.
